Some of the demonstrators arrived at the march with banners reading: “The end of mass tourism!”, “Give the city back to its residents!” and “Everything has its limits!”

The event organizers wrote in a statement released to the media that Saturday's demonstration is a form of protest against the “incorrect policy” of the Barcelona authorities, who, in their opinion, have made the city dependent on revenues from tourism. In their opinion, this leads to a deterioration in the quality of life of residents.

The main demands of the protesters include limiting the issuing of permits for the operation of new hotels and private accommodation, as well as reducing the number of cruise ships calling at the port in the capital of Catalonia.

Barcelona is the next city Spainwhere residents have been expressing their discontent on the streets against mass tourism. Similar protests have been held in recent weeks in Malaga, Cadiz and Seville, among others.

Protests against mass tourism were also held in the Canary Islands on Saturday, while residents' associations in Alicante and the Balearic archipelago called on local residents to take part in similar demonstrations on July 13 and 21.
