In many places in Poland, on Friday afternoon, there is a protest against the construction of the Central Communication Port, as well as all the railway lines that will lead to it. A dozen or so routes across the country are blocked, most of them in Mazovia, but also in Silesia and the Lublin Province. – This turn is unnecessary to anyone. This is a megalomaniacal idea of the authorities, argued the organizer of the protest in Mikołów (Śląskie Voivodeship).
Central Communication Port is a planned transfer junction between Warsaw and Łódź, which will integrate air, rail and road transport. The Solidarity Airport is to be built on approximately 3,000 hectares, which in the first stage will be able to serve 45 million passengers per year. The CPK is to be built by 2027 along with the implementation of the necessary connections with the components of the rail and road network.
The CPK is preparing the construction of 12 railway routes, including 10 so-called spokes leading from various regions of Poland to Warsaw and the new airport. In total, these are 30 investment tasks and almost 2,000 km of new railway lines, which are to be completed by the end of 2034.
“No one needs this turn”
The protest in Mikołów, where the railway line that will lead to the CPK is to run, reported TVN24 reporter Jerzy Korczyński.
– The problem of the inhabitants has been going on for many months. To date, this particular route has not yet been mapped out. As they say themselves, it’s a bit of a lottery. It is not known which route will be taken. At the moment, four routes are being considered – said the journalist. As he reported, the banners showed, among other things, that the inhabitants did not agree that the route ran through the botanical garden.
– This turn is unnecessary to anyone. It is a megalomaniacal idea of a government that is trying to include this investment in the so-called new silk road. We are protesting against it, said one of the protesters through a megaphone. – We are protesting against the investment, the cost of which exceeds the annual budget of the Republic of Poland. The next generations of our children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren will pay off the sick ideas of the power that does not count with anyone – he added.
