Protests against judges removed from adjudication were held on Thursday in several Polish cities, including Wrocław and Częstochowa. A year has passed since Igor Tuleya, judge of the District Court in Warsaw, was suspended in his professional duties. – We stand in defense of steadfast judges. We firmly disagree with the deformation of the judiciary – said Anna Kowalczyk-Derlęga from the Women’s Strike and KOD Wrocław during the Wrocław protest.

Disciplinary Chamber not recognized by the Supreme Court decided on November 18, 2020 to suspend the Bushing in official activities and a 25 percent reduction in his salary. Following this ruling, Judge Tuleya was removed from the trial.

Among other things, the anniversary of Judge Tuley’s removal from adjudication was the cause of Thursday protests in several Polish cities.

About 40 people protested in front of the Częstochowa courts.

The protest was organized by the Częstochowa Democracy Defense Committee. Such protests are held before local courts every 18th of the month from 18 January this year.

The protesters brought Polish and EU flags as well as banners with the slogans: “PiS! Where is the division of power, Thief !!!”, “We demand the reinstatement of independent judges”, “Independent judges must return”, “Stop political repression”.

Wroclaw. “We do not agree to the deformation of the judiciary”

The group of people also gathered in Wrocław, in front of the Wrocław-Śródmieście District Court.

– Every month we stand before courts in different towns, in a greater or lesser number. Sometimes there are several of us. We stand up for steadfast judges. We firmly disagree with the deformation of the judiciary, we do not agree with what Ziobro is doing, what the PiS government is doing, because it is lawless – said Anna Kowalczyk-Derlęga from the Women’s Strike and KOD Wrocław.

Opole. “By his attitude he restores our faith in the rule of law”

The protest was also held in Opole. About 35 people were present at the local Daszyński Square.

One of the participants, Małgorzata Besz-Janicka from KOD Opole, said about judge Igor Tuleya that “he is a symbol of such an adamant, brave judge who, with his attitude, restores our faith in the rule of law, which we do not currently have”. – Indeed, he has come through a very hard way. Not only was he suspended and removed from the trial. Also Paweł Juszczyszyn, who has actually been deprived of the possibility of adjudicating for 21 months. He is an extremely brave judge, relentless in efforts – said the activist.
