The 43-year-old from Pruszków thought he could outsmart the system. However, the plan didn't work out. He weighed industrial products packed into a grocery bag at the self-service checkout as a carrot. His behavior did not go unnoticed by the security guard.
A resident of the Pruszków district decided to make industrial purchases, including: a flashlight, battery lamps and razor cartridges with a total value of over PLN 170. He packed the products into a shopping bag and then went to the self-service checkout.
“He pressed the carrot code”
However, he did not intend to pay the amount for them. “He placed the package on the scale and entered the carrot code. Products worth over PLN 170, weighed as vegetables, amounted to PLN 2.13” – described the Asp. pcs. Monika Orlik from the District Police Headquarters in Pruszków. The amount was paid in accordance with the printout.
“To maintain the appearance of honesty, the customer purchased a paper towel in accordance with the code provided on the product and paid the required amount,” Orlik added. However, his “method” of cheap shopping did not work. After leaving the cash register, he was caught by a security guard.
He couldn't explain why
The man detained by the police could not explain why he behaved this way.
He has already been charged with fraud, to which he pleaded guilty. He faces a sentence of up to eight years in prison. The case is supervised by the District Prosecutor's Office in Pruszków.
