Over a year ago, a psychologist was murdered in a prison in Rzeszów by a man suspected of numerous rapes. So far, none of the prison officers have suffered any consequences for this. The issue of the responsibility of the prison service for its shortcomings is discussed in a report by “Superwizjer” entitled “Crimes behind bars”. – In fact, we have not found a single case where the prison guard suffered any consequences for the shortcomings that led to the tragedy – said Jarosław Jabrzyk, editor-in-chief of TVN’s “Superwizjer” on TVN24.
The murder of Major Bogumiła Bieniek-Pasierb shocked the whole country. Over a year ago, in a prison in Rzeszów, a man suspected of numerous rapes murdered a prison psychologist in cold blood. The woman left behind two children. TVN’s “Superwizjer” reporter, Grzegorz Głuszak, has accessed the prison’s internal protocol describing the circumstances of the murder.
He also traced the cases of other murders committed by inmates – in 2018, Artur K., previously convicted of murder, got a pass to the management of the prison, during which he murdered 35-year-old Monika and her son Oskar. In a Wroclaw prison, a woman was murdered during a visit by a man she came to visit. Are prison officers held accountable for the mistakes they make? Could these killings have been avoided? About it in the reportCrimes behind bars“.
The reportage will be broadcast on Saturday at 8 pm on TVN24
Jabryk: There is no one to whom any accusation can be made
– This crime is our starting point. The murder of a psychologist in a prison in Rzeszów – said Jarosław Jabrzyk, editor-in-chief of “Superwizjer” on TVN24. – We remember the dramatic press conferences, where the managers of the prison service were crying, saying that we would necessarily explain what happened, how it happened, we would name all violations, and we would convict the guilty – he added. – We are a year from this event, the investigation in the prosecutor’s office is being conducted “in the case”, which means that there is no one who could be accused of anything – added Jabryk.
“The most shocking” for Jarosław Jabrzyk is the internal protocol of the prison service, which “Superwizjer” reached, in which the murder of a psychologist in the Rzeszów prison was classified only as an “accident in connection with the performance of duty”.
The journalists of “Superwizjer” decided to look at other similar cases in Poland, checking whether there is “a certain system of protection for the prison service, which can count on impunity in such violations”. – In fact, we have not found a single case where a prison guard suffered any consequences for the shortcomings that led to the tragedy – added Jabryk.
– This is a material about a system, a system in which basically this moment of the event is such a key moment, then very far-reaching declarations are made, but nothing comes of them, and this is outrageous to me – said Jarosław Jabrzyk.
