The Civic Coalition (KO) MPs want to establish a day of remembrance dedicated to the extermination of people with mental disorders. The Left also has its own proposal for a new day, but such activity of MPs is much less than during the rule of Law and Justice (PiS) – reports Thursday's “Rzeczpospolita”.
On September 22, 1939, the extermination of the residents of the National Psychiatric Institution in Kocborowo in Pomerania began. On that day, 88 patients were killed there, and in total, between September 1939 and January 1941, almost 1.7 thousand.
KO MPs want the anniversary of the beginning of the extermination to be celebrated Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Holocaust of People with Mental Disorders in Occupied Poland during World War II. They submitted a draft resolution to the Sejm on this matter. “The extermination of mentally ill people during World War II in occupied Poland initiated the genocidal crimes of the Third Reich,” they wrote in the justification.
Piotr Adamowicz, a member of parliament from the Civic Coalition and a representative of the applicants, told “Rz” that his club had submitted a similar project in the first term of the government. PIS.
President Gabriel Narutowicz Day
There is also a project of the Left. In November, members of parliament of this group submitted a bill on On the Day of President Gabriel Narutowicz. It would be celebrated on December 16, the anniversary of the politician's murder – informs “Rz”. Also in November, the deputies of Sovereign Poland submitted a project to establish the National Day of the Zamość Uprising and Remembrance of the Children of Zamość Region – it is noted in the text. According to “Rzeczpospolita”, it is unofficially known that the greatest chances for establishing in this term are for now the days dedicated to President Narutowicz and the victims of the extermination of people with mental disorders.
The introduction of new holidays does not mean additional time off. The Act of 1951, which has been amended many times and precisely lists the statutory days free from work, applies here.
