Police officers patrolling the Bay of Puck detained a 70-year-old motorboat helmsman. He had almost two per mille of alcohol in his blood. During the intervention, he tried to escape the police. He was aggressive, resistant and did not want to disembark. He faces up to three years in prison.
– The intervening police officers immediately noticed an open bottle of vodka in the wheelhouse and smelled alcohol from the man. His slurred speech, aggressive behavior and the fact that he was unable to maintain his balance while walking on the deck additionally confirmed the police officers' suspicions, said Commissioner Karina KamiÅ„ska, spokeswoman for the Pomeranian Police.
She explained that the intervention took place on Saturday after 14 on the Bay of Puck. Officers from the Water Police Station in Gdańsk stopped a motorboat that was sailing towards the fishing port in Kuźnica (Pomeranian Voivodeship).
She added that instead of submitting to police control, the helmsman untied his vessel from the police boat and continued moving towards the port. – A man moored a boat side to side in the port and tried to barricade himself in the wheelhouse. The police effectively prevented him from doing so, said Chief KamiÅ„ska.
The 70-year-old was aggressive
During the intervention, the man was aggressive, did not follow the policemen's commands, resisted and did not want to disembark. The police were forced to use physical force against the 70-year-old to bring him ashore.
The police spokeswoman added that a resident of Jastarnia was detained and taken to the police station; a breathalyzer test showed that he had nearly two per mille of alcohol in his body.
Driving a motorboat under the influence of alcohol is punishable by up to three years in prison.
