The U.S. Environmental Safety Company says Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands will obtain a complete of almost $108 million to enhance ingesting water infrastructure throughout the U.S. territories

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — The U.S. Environmental Safety Company stated Tuesday that Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands will obtain a complete of almost $108 million to enhance ingesting water infrastructure throughout the U.S. territories.

Puerto Rico is slated to get $62 million and the U.S. Virgin Islands almost $46 million.

The cash is a part of a push by the administration of U.S. President Joe Biden to enhance ingesting water programs and take away lead pipes.

Federal officers stated Congress appropriated an extra $6 billion for water tasks in U.S. states and territories as a part of the $550 billion Bipartisan Infrastructure Legislation that Biden signed in November 2021.

Officers stated the cash will goal deprived communities. Puerto Rico, an island of three.2 million folks, has a 46% poverty fee. The U.S. Virgin Islands, a three-island territory of 87,000 folks, has a poverty fee of almost 20%.
