Vladimir Putin began flying in his own country accompanied by a fighter – wrote the independent Russian portal Agientstwo. He refers, among other things, to the accounts of the inhabitants of Yakutia, which the leader visited on his way to North Korea.

Vladimir Putin flew to Yakutia on Tuesday, on the way to North Korea. Residents of this city recorded at least one fighter accompanying the government plane with the president on board in recordings and photos published on social networking sites – the Agientstwo portal reported on that day. Russian military analyst Jan Matveyev explained in an interview with this website's journalists that the video and photos show a Su-30 fighter.

First confirmed case

According to the Agency's findings, this is the first (visually) confirmed case since the beginning of the armed invasion Russia on Ukraine in February 2022, when during a visit to his own country, the plane with Putin on board was escorted by a military plane.

Previously, fighter jets accompanied the president only abroad. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov he explained it for security reasons, an independent portal reported.

“We have analyzed reports from state agencies and Telegram channels. Since the beginning of the war, we have not found any information about the president being escorted by fighter jets during visits to Russian cities. In January 2024, before Vladimir Putin's trip to Kaliningrad (Königsberg), Dmitry Peskov was asked whether the president would be accompanied by military planes, but he did not answer this question at that time,” the Agency recalled.

Travel outside the country

The Russian media, in turn, regularly reported on fighter jets accompanying Putin during his international visits, including: Belarus in December 2022, November 2023 and May this year, as well as during trips to Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan (also in May this year).

The Ukrainian media, commenting on the reports of the Agientstwo portal, stated in their headlines that “Putin is afraid to fly in his own country.”
