The ceremonial opening of the Warsaw-Radom airport took place on April 27. On the same day, the first scheduled flight landed in Radom; it was a flight from Paris. A day later, the passengers departed for the capitals Italian and France.

Built almost from scratch, the airport has, among others, a modern terminal with an area of 30,000 sq. m. sq. m. In addition to check-in desks and security checks, the building has a large commercial area with restaurants, cafes, duty free shops, child care rooms and playgrounds.

The infrastructure of the Radom airport allows the reception of the most popular aircraft operated by charter and low-cost carriers, i.e. A320 or B737, but also larger machines – such as B787 Dreamliner.

When will the airport become profitable?

During the first month of operation, the Warsaw-Radom airport handled over 8.5 thousand passengers.

Meanwhile, “for the airport to start bringing profits, the number of passengers checked in in one month should exceed 80,000”, i.e. about 960,000 passengers in a year – this information was provided by the deputy minister of funds and regional policy and the government plenipotentiary for the CPK in response to a parliamentary question Marcin Horala.

The deputy head of the MFiPR pointed out that the Warsaw-Radom airport is to start generating profits from 2028. “According to PPL SA’s financial forecasts for the Warsaw-Radom Airport, EBITDA will start to be generated from 2028” – said Marcin Horała.

According to Adrian Furgalski, “the Warsaw-Radom airport will beat the weakest airport in Zielona Góra in years, but this is not a reason to celebrate and open champagne for over PLN 800 million.”

According to Furgalski, this year the number of passengers served at the port in the south of Mazovia will approach 100,000, which is much less than forecasts. – If we refer to the IATA forecast from 2021 (350,000) or the announcement of the airport director from autumn 2022 (250,000), it can be seen that they are completely different from reality – emphasized the expert, noting that the number of connections is a big unknown in the last months of this year.

– So far, we do not know what LOT’s operations will be after October 27, when we have the last scheduled flight of this airline, or what charter flights will be in the winter season – and there will be rather few of them – indicated Adrian Furgalski.
