The Warsaw-Radom airport makes great economic sense, it will relieve Warsaw’s Okęcie, attract investments to Radom, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said on Thursday during the official opening ceremony of the Radom airport. The first passenger flight, from Paris, is scheduled to land on Thursday evening.

– This port makes a lot of sense. The port of Warsaw Okęcie is absolutely overloaded, so opening this port makes great infrastructural and logistic sense, Morawiecki said. As the Prime Minister explained, the Warsaw-Radom port will relieve Okęcie and will be a backup airport.

– This is proof that we are removing the curse from Radom, which was imposed on this city by the communists after 1976 – said Morawiecki.

In his opinion, the airport in Radom “opens the whole region”, and thanks to it, Radom has a chance for additional investments, attracting entrepreneurs and raising the level of salaries. – The chances of this would be much smaller if we had not removed the curse from Radom – he added.

– I believe that Radom and the entire great subregion – which can develop much better thanks to this port – today opens a new chapter in its history. Just as we have shown that the bane of the Third Republic of Poland – unemployment – can be overcome, we will show that sustainable development is indeed possible – said the head of the government.

The airport in Radom is intended mainly for passengers living within a radius of approx. 100-150 km from Radom. Polish Airports (PPL) expect that it will be used not only by the inhabitants of the Mazowieckie Voivodeship, but also the neighboring regions: Świętokrzyskie, Lubelskie and Łódzkie.

The airport’s infrastructure allows the reception of the most popular aircraft operated by charter and low-cost carriers, i.e. A320 or B737, but also larger machines – such as B787 Dreamliner.

Thinking about travelers commuting to Radom from Warsaw, PPL will launch shuttle buses from Thursday, which will run between Warsaw Okęcie and Warsaw-Radom airport.
