Investigators did not find any irregularities in the actions of firefighters who did not notice the corpse of the fire victim during the extinguishing of the fire in Głowaczów in the Mazowieckie Voivodeship. The body of a man who had accumulated a lot of flammable items in the house was found in the burnt area after a few months.

At the beginning of November 2022, a fire broke out on one of the properties in Głowaczów in the Mazowieckie Voivodeship. Firefighters extinguished the fire and checked the area. As it turned out, the owner of the apartment was the so-called collector. He brought home and stored various items there. After the fire, several trucks of waste were removed. At that time, no one came across the body in the ashes.

The man’s body has been discovered only when, after a few months, his sister reported him missing – then the burn site was searched again. – All the items that were there were dried and it was easier to double check. Then the body of a 57-year-old was found – said the spokeswoman for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Radom, Agnieszka Borkowska.

Now, after several months of investigation, the spokeswoman has announced that it has been discontinued. – Investigators concluded that the fire department could not be found to have failed to fulfill its duties. It was considered that the actions taken during the firefighting operation were adequate to the situation and the information available to the firefighters at that time, the spokeswoman said.

The investigation showed that the firefighting operation was very difficult. It was attended by several hosts of both the State Fire Service and the Volunteer Fire Brigade. – The activities were so difficult that there was a risk of the fire spreading to the neighboring building of the pizzeria. There were two gas cylinders in the building that threatened to explode, the spokeswoman explained. She added that the problem was also the large amount of items accumulated in the house, most of them flammable.

The prosecutor stressed that firefighters undertook search activities, but the body was not found. – Information was obtained from the immediate family of the owner that he may not be at home, that he may have moved away from his place of residence. In addition, in the following days, information came that the man had been seen in Głowaczów, the prosecutor reported.

She added that after analyzing all these circumstances, the investigators concluded that the firefighters fulfilled their duties during the firefighting operation. On this basis, the investigation was discontinued.
