Europe can afford more, the Union must arm itself more – said Minister Radosław Sikorski, head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in an interview with CNN. He also talked about the hopes that in his opinion gives involvement in the peace process of American President Donald Trump.
– Delivering from 3 to 4 percent of GDP for defense was the norm during the Cold War. Europe has benefited for a long time that there was peace. We have a bit to catch up. We must spend more on defense – said Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski in an interview with CNN.
Sikorski: Europe has no global obligations
As an example, he mentioned Lithuania. – Our neighbor has plans to spend even more than Poland. That's good. Let us remember, however, that Europe does not have global obligations. We only want to defend Europe, while the United States has bases in the middle of the world around the world – he said. – So if we all spent 2 or 3 percent of GDP on defense, it would be a very big contribution to our common Western approach in terms of security – he added.
Sikorski about a conversation with Marek Rubio: It was a good, strategic conversation of two allied countries
Sikorski also expressed the hope that “President Trump wants to win”. – It is the United States that is the leader of the Free World, and Russia is a power in a state of fall, which is trying to regain its former colony. If President Trump wants to include a room, not just get a suspension of weapons and thus win the Nobel Peace Prize, then this room must be durable and acceptable to Ukraine – he said.
Speech of the Vice President
The US Vice President JD Vance in his speech at the Munich Security Conference said that “Trump's administration is very concerned about the issue of European security, but he believes that we can reach a reasonable agreement between Russia and Ukraine.”
– The threat that worries me the most when I think about Europe is not Russia or China, this is not any other external power. What worries me is a threat from within Europe, the retreat of Europe from some of its most basic values, values shared with the United States – said the vice president.
