We are looking for solutions that will be humanitarian, but that will be effective and that will convince our societies that the external border of the Schengen area is under control, said the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Radosław Sikorski, after a meeting with his Italian counterpart, Antonio Tajani. He was also asked whether his party would have someone to replace him if he had to deal with “other challenges” soon.

Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski he has been on a two-day visit since Thursday Italy. He met with his Italian counterpart, Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani. The topics of conversation included Polish-Italian bilateral cooperation, the issue of migration, European policy and support for the fighting Ukraine.

– We are looking for solutions that will be humane, but that will be effective and that will convince our societies that the external border Schengen zone is under control. This is what society demands, it has the right to do, and our task, as politicians, is to implement it – said Sikorski during a press conference, referring to the issue of migration.

Sikorski asked about his potential successor. “Keep your head straight, we'll get through it”

At the end of the conference, a question was asked about who could replace Sikorski as the head of Polish diplomacy if he were to perform other functions. It has not been said directly what this is about, but the name of the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs appears on the list of names of potential candidates of the Civic Coalition in the presidential elections.

– Is the leadership of the Civic Platform prepared for a scenario in which, for example, I am speaking purely theoretically, you would deal with other challenges? So is there anyone in the Civic Platform who is capable of continuing to lead the Ministry of Foreign Affairs? – asked the journalist.

– Calm down, we'll manage, Sikorski replied shortly.
