Radosław Sikorski in Prague: Ukrainian soldiers will be able to be trained in Poland

Minister of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski participated in a two-day informal meeting of foreign ministers of the North Atlantic Alliance in Prague. On Friday, the head of Polish diplomacy said that the meeting was “successful and important before the summit in Washington.” – We are closer to reaching important decisions. The voice on Ukraine's future membership in the alliance will be strengthened, he said.

– The North Atlantic Alliance believes that this war will end only when Putin realizes that he cannot win it with acceptable losses – he said.

Sikorski: Poland plans to train a Ukrainian unit

Sikorski responded to the question about the possible sending of soldiers FOR THISincluding Polish ones, to Ukraine as logistic support or assistance in anti-aircraft defense.

– Poland considered the Ukrainian request regarding training, but we came to the conclusion that it would be safer and more efficient to train a Ukrainian unit composed of Ukrainians in Poland – said the head of Polish diplomacy.

He explained that the training will be carried out by soldiers “who are subject to conscription into the Ukrainian army.” – This will simply be a more effective way to help Ukraine – he said.

When asked whether Polish weapons delivered to Ukraine could be used outside Ukrainian territory, he said that “there are no known restrictions on the supply of Polish weapons.” – A number of allies confirmed that they also have no restrictions (to use weapons outside Ukraine – ed.), and the US Secretary of State confirmed what is already in the media, that Ukrainians can defend themselves with American weapons in the border region, where the Russian military directly threatens them. We believe this is simply self-defense, he said.

The Polish minister also said that he had informed partners about the ongoing negotiations with Ukraine on a bilateral security agreement. – These negotiations are going well – said Sikorski and added that he hopes to sign the agreement before the NATO summit in July this year. in Washington.

The two-day meeting of NATO ministers in Prague was the last opportunity to directly exchange views before the summit. According to the head of Polish diplomacy, the talks in Prague brought closer important decisions, including: strengthening the message regarding Ukraine's future membership in the Alliance and establishing a mechanism of financial support for Ukraine's defense in the amount of approximately USD 40 billion per year.
