Radosław Sikorski on students detained in Nigeria. “They were unlucky”

It seems to me that there was a misunderstanding. They had the misfortune of finding themselves in the middle of political controversy in Nigeria – said the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski in “Fakty po Faktach”, asked about the case of Polish students detained in Nigeria. As he added, “it seems that the case is on the right track”.

Detained in Nigeria University of Warsaw students met with the Polish consul on Friday. They are staying at a hotel, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is seeking clarification of their legal situation – informed the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Radoslaw Sikorski. No charges were brought against them.

As Radosław Sikorski assured in “Fakty po Faktach” on TVN24, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs “is in contact with the Nigerian authorities on the one hand and with the students' families on the other.”

– I think there was a misunderstanding. They had the misfortune of finding themselves in the middle of political controversy in Nigeria – he continued. He added that “they are not in danger”.

– They are in the hotel, we are receiving reassuring messages. I cannot say everything, but it seems to me that the matter is on the right track – Sikorski said.
