An indictment was filed with the District Court in Wąbrzeźno against a 19-year-old mother from Radzyń Chełmiński (Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship) who abused her infant. The boy was taken to hospital with multiple injuries. He is currently in the care of his grandparents. The woman faces up to eight years in prison.
The case came to light earlier this year, when police officers from Grudziądz received a report from concerned hospital staff at the end of February. The injuries on the boy's body indicated that the child may have been a victim of domestic violence.
The police arrived at the scene and detained the infant's parents – the then 18-year-old mother and 20-year-old father. – The child's parents come from Radzyń Chełmiński. The police have never intervened in this family before. They also did not have a “blue card” – said then in an interview with tvn24.pl, cadet Łukasz Kowalczyk, press officer for the Grudziądz police.
Both were questioned at the District Prosecutor's Office in Wąbrzeźno. The man was released and no charges were brought against him. The 18-year-old was charged with physical and mental abuse of a child.
Indictment against Julia W.
A few days ago, the District Prosecutor’s Office in Wąbrzeźno filed an indictment against 19-year-old Julia W., suspected of abusing her minor son and causing him bodily injuries for a period exceeding 7 days.
– Based on witness statements, medical records, expert opinions, the suspect's explanations and others, it was determined that Julia W. she is a mother son Brajan, born in 2023. From an unspecified date in 2023 to February 26, 2024, in Radzyń Chełmiński, she physically and mentally abused the child, who was helpless due to his age and physical and mental condition, informed prosecutor Andrzej Kukawski, spokesman for the District Prosecutor's Office in Toruń.
He added that “the woman insulted her son, shouted at him for no reason, grabbed him by the body and clothes, neglected his hygiene and feeding, and hit him with her hands all over his body.”
– She caused, among other things, head injuries in the form of subdural hematomas, reticular hemorrhages of the eye, abrasions and bruises around the mouth, bruises on the cheeks, abdomen and buttocks, which impaired the functions of the child's body organs for a period exceeding 7 days within the meaning of the Penal Code – the prosecutor emphasized.
She pleaded guilty
The 19-year-old admitted to committing the act she was accused of and provided an explanation. – During the investigation, preventive measures were applied to her in the form of police supervision, a ban on leaving the country, an order to periodically leave the premises occupied jointly with the injured party, as well as a ban on approaching the injured party or contacting him in any way – said prosecutor Kukawski.
The woman faces from 6 months to 8 years of imprisonment.
