When we look at who has the most difficult experiences at school, in relationships with peers, in relationships with teachers, management and the school atmosphere, it is the LGBTQ+ community, which is exposed to discriminatory actions – said Katarzyna Kotula, Minister of Equality. She announced that the next edition of the ranking of schools friendly to the LGBTQ+ community will start on Monday.

On Monday, at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister at 10 a.m., there will be a conference with the GrowSPACE Foundation on the 4th national edition of the Ranking of LGBTQ+ Friendly Schools, under the patronage of the Minister for Equality Katarzyna Kotula.

– This ranking shows which schools, in the students’ perception, are open and which focus on acceptance, tolerance and safety – explained Kotula. – We will talk about what safety means and what a safe school means, what a student’s trust in a school is and what space a school must provide for students to be considered safe – she added.

“We want to create a friendly and open school”

Kotula said that at the conference at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister, participants will talk about how data for the ranking will be collected and when, as well as what the ranking will focus on. And – as she said – “we will talk about what will change in Polish schools and what will come into force.”

– When we look at who has the most difficult experiences at school, in relationships with peers, in relationships with teachers, management and the school atmosphere, it is the LGBT community, which is exposed to discriminatory actions from sometimes school authorities and sometimes colleagues. , and sometimes due to the schools’ political affiliations, said the minister.

– We want to create a school that is friendly and open to everyone. This is how I imagine her. For the LGBT community, for children with disabilities, but also a safe school means that it is an element of suicide prevention, she emphasized. – The foundation with which we will discuss the ranking is very involved and presents reports on suicide attempts – Kotula said.
