Downpours, hail and wind gusts up to 92 kilometers per hour caused damage to vehicles, roofs of houses, premises and infrastructure. In the municipality of Lecera near Zaragoza, the hailstones were so large that they barely fit in the palm of your hand.

More than a dozen drivers were trapped in their vehicles in parts of the city where more than 54 liters of water fell per square meter. Many people saved themselves by clinging to trees. Firefighters and diving teams intervened.

In the municipality of Burgo de Ebro, eight people, including four children, were evacuated from flooded residential buildings as a precaution.

Difficulties in communication

The storm caused traffic interruptions on the A-23 and Z-30 motorways, as well as stoppages in the operation of buses and trams in Zaragoza. The airport in the regional capital canceled the landing of a plane from Mallorca due to runway flooding and redirected it to Barcelona.

Despite numerous “complicated situations” caused by difficult weather conditions, no one was killed or injured, the city authorities informed.
