Extremely heavy rainfall is forecast for southwestern Poland, which is to be brought by the Genoese low from southern Europe. An RCB alert has been sent to residents of four provinces. Services are warning of flooding.
“Attention! Today (12.09) intense, torrential rainfall. Possible flooding. Do not approach swollen rivers. Listen to the services' instructions” – RCB alert with the following content was sent to recipients in the following provinces:
- Lower Silesia;
- Opole;
- Greater Poland (counties: Gniezno, Gostyń, Jarocin, Kalisz, KaliszKępiński, Kolski, KoninKonin, Krotoszyn, Leszno, LesznoOstrów, Ostrzeszów, Pleszew, Rawicz, Słupca, Środa, Śrem, Turek and Września);
- Lodz (counties: Kutno, Łęczyca, Poddębice, Sieradz, Wieluń, Wieruszów and Zduńska Wola).
In the event of a flood risk, you should:
- listen to warning and emergency messages on local radio or television;
- move valuable items to the upper floors of the building,
- make sure your mobile phone is fully charged at all times, move vehicles from the property to non-threatened places,
- secure the building and prepare sandbags.
Remember that in cases that you believe are or may be significant for security, you should immediately inform the services by calling the emergency number 112 – the Government Security Centre appeals.
Genoese lowland
In the southwestern part of the country, rain began to fall on the night from Wednesday to Thursday, and in the coming hours and days, more and more rain will fall. First, second and third degree warnings issued by the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management are in force.
In the second half of the week, extreme rainfall is to be brought to Poland by the Genoese low Boris. Floods may occur in the Opole, Lower Silesia and Silesian voivodeships.
