Redzikowo – NATO base in Poland mentioned in the summit declaration

The launch of the Aegis Ashore facility in Redzikowo, Poland, complements existing assets in Romania, Spain and Turkey, as announced in the NATO Summit Final Declaration. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, assuring the readiness of the base in Poland to carry out its mission, emphasized that this is an important step for transatlantic security and NATO's ability to defend against the growing threat from ballistic missiles.

NATO members stressed in the final declaration of the NATO summit that they are “determined to deter and defend against all air and missile threats by strengthening the integrated air and missile defence system (IAMD), based on the 360-degree principle”, i.e. the ability to operate in all directions.

The declaration announced “NATO's Enhanced Operational Capability for Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD).” “The launch of the Aegis Ashore facility in Redzikowo, Poland, complements existing assets in Romania, Spain, and Turkey,” it said.

Allies remain committed to the full development of NATO BMD, to the implementation of the collective defence of the Alliance, and to ensuring the full protection of all populations, territory and forces of European NATO members from the growing threat posed by ballistic missile proliferation.

Stoltenberg: Base ready to launch mission

– The base in Redzikowo in northern Poland, which is part of NATO's anti-missile shield, is ready to begin its mission – announced NATO Secretary General on Wednesday. Jens Stoltenberg during a press conference after NATO leaders met at the summit in Washington. “This is an important step for transatlantic security and NATO's ability to defend against the growing threat from ballistic missiles,” the NATO chief said.

Stoltenberg also said the leaders agreed to adjust NATO's command structure and expand the capabilities of its integrated air and missile defense system.
