PiS councilor Barbara Nowak announced that she would resign from her mandate in the Małopolska regional assembly after Łukasz Smółka became the province marshal. The decision of the former Małopolska education superintendent was supposed to be an act of protest against the insubordination of Małopolska councilors to the will of chairman Jarosław Kaczyński. After a few days, Barbara Nowak suggested that she had changed her mind.

Barbara Nowak wrote on Monday on Platform X that it seemed to her that “she alone could change reality for the better”. However, she emphasized that she “forgot” that she was in the regional council at the will of the voters. In the entry, she “thanked for the lesson in humility” from the voters and “friends from all over Poland”.

“I apologize for the confusion. I am here for the people of Małopolska,” she wrote.

Does this mean that the decision to resign from the mandate is no longer valid? Probably yes. One of the commentators wrote that Barbara Nowak “will be more useful in the regional council than in internal emigration”. The former education superintendent of Małopolska thanked for the entry and sent greetings.

“Betrayal is betrayal”

Barbara Nowak announced her resignation as a councillor at the end of the regional council session, during which a new board was elected. Łukasz Smółka has been elected Marshal of the Małopolska Voivodeshipeven though PiS councillors had previously tried to push through the candidacy five times PiS MP and former voivode Łukasz Kmita, supported by Jaroslaw Kaczynski.

Ultimately, the PiS leadership bowed to the rebellious councilors of their own party, who did not allow Kmita to be elected as the province marshal. It was in response to the victory of the faction opposing MP Kmita that Barbara Nowak spoke of resigning from her mandate.

Barbara Nowak noticed that some PiS councillors did not vote for Łukasz Kmita’s candidacy five times.

– I called them traitors and I do not take it back. For me, betrayal is betrayal. Treason is punished, not rewarded. Today I carried out the will of everyone, the entire club, I voted as they wished, but I honestly say: I do not agree with such an arrangement. I cannot tolerate it, such is my honor and I resign – said the former curator after the session.

There was no consultation

The councilor emphasized then that she had not consulted anyone about her decision to resign. – I need to be able to look at myself in the mirror and I have never given that up. I cannot give up my sense of honor for any benefits, no matter what – she said. She emphasized that her decision is not tantamount to opposition to the current form of the provincial government.
