The resignations of Generals Andrzejczak and Piotrowski were commented on “Fakty po Faktach” on TVN24 by General Mieczysław Cieniuch, diplomat, former ambassador of the Republic of Poland in Turkeyformer Chief of the General Staff of the Polish Army, and retired Major General Bogusław Pacek, director of the Institute of Security and International Development.

General Pacek said that “the surprise is obvious.” – Because if two generals leave at the same time, from the most important positions in the country, it must be a surprise – he said. – But on the other hand, it is not a surprise at the level of the revolution, because it was an open secret that the relations between the Minister of National Defense and these two: the Chief of the General Staff and the operational commander, are not good and have been in many places since May (. ..), it was obvious that something was going on – he said.

– I think that there were many drops of bitterness, and a few days ago there must have been the last one that tipped or caused this cup of bitterness to overflow – added General Pacek.

He recalled that “it started in May, (…), from… public, however, accusing a very important general of a very significant failure to fulfill his duties“. – We are talking about the incident with the Russian missile – he specified.

He added that “it was a very serious drop, but there were more drops.” – This is everything we have observed over the last few weeks, these political activities, the Polish-Polish war and many different elements – said the director of the Institute of Security and International Development.

General Cieniuch stated that “the situation here is that nothing comes from nowhere and nothing goes anywhere.” – One could say that it was visible and felt that the cooperation between the Minister of National Defense and the highest commanders of the Polish Army is not the best – he added.

He was asked whether he believed that the lack of understanding between the military and civilian supervision of the army was the reason for the generals leaving their posts. – As for civilian control over the armed forces, the generals certainly have no doubts and fully accept it, because it is a normal situation in a democratic country. However, the method of implementing this civilian control over the armed forces may, of course, be different and may be better or worse accepted, he said.

He added that the two previous chiefs of the General Staff “also did not leave in a normal manner, they just wrote notices of resignation.” – This would prove that this system of cooperation between the civilian management of the Ministry of National Defense and the army has not been perfect for many years – he said.
