Pope Francis in an interview with the Reuters agency said that there were talks between the Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin and the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov regarding his possible trip to Moscow. The Pope said that he would also like to go to Kiev.

Reuters Agency recalled that no pope has ever visited Moscow, and Francis has repeatedly condemned the military invasion Russia to Ukraine. Francis accused Russia of, among other things, waging a “cruel and senseless war.”

The issue of Francis’ visit to Moscow was considered a few months ago, but then the Russian authorities replied that it was not “the right time”.

In an interview with Reuters, the Pope said that this situation could change now. – I would like to go (to Ukraine), but first I wanted to go to Moscow. We exchanged news on this subject, I thought that if the president of Russia would give me a small window to serve the cause of peace … – he said.

– And now it is possible that after returning from Canada I will manage to go to Ukraine – he stressed. – First, however, what you have to do is go to Russia to try to help in some way, but I would like to go to both capitals – said Francis.
