The man wanted to please his wife, who wanted a more varied view. That’s why the self-taught Bosnian innovator has built a revolving house so he can watch the sun rise one moment and passersby the next.
– When we built the house, my wife did not like the arrangement of the rooms. I tried to do something about it – I changed their location, demolished walls, but my wife still did not fit. I was really sick of her constantly complaining. That’s why I said: I’ll build you a revolving house so that you can turn it as you like. And so it happened – told Reuters Vojin Kusić, 72, standing in front of his new home, which attracts the attention of visitors.
Rotary house for a wife
Situated on a fertile plain in northern Bosnia near the town of Srbac, the house rotates around a 7-meter axis designed by Kusic, overlooking cornfields and farmland turning into forests and river at the desired speed.
“A house can go full circle in 24 hours when it’s slowest, while with the fastest turn it can go full circle in 22 seconds,” said Kusic.
His wife did not want to comment on the new home.
Kusić said that he was inspired by Serbo-American inventors Nikola Tesla and Mihajlo Pupin, and coming from a poor family without the possibility of a good education forced him to look for ways to do things and work on his own.
“It’s not an innovation, it only requires will and knowledge, and I had enough time and knowledge,” he said, adding that he himself built a house that is more earthquake-resistant than stationary houses.
The construction took six years, with interruptions to hospital stay due to heart disease: – I asked doctors to try to extend (my life) for at least a year because I have this project in my head and … no one will know how to finish it.
