Richard Buckley, partner and husband of designer Tom Ford, died on Sunday at the age of 72. Buckley was a journalist, editor, and LGBT + activist. He was, inter alia, the editor-in-chief of “Vogue Hommes International”.
Richard Buckley, a fashion journalist who has been privately associated with designer Tom Ford since 1986, died at the age of 72.
The information about his death was published by the press staff of Tom Ford. “It is with great sadness that Tom Ford announces the death of his beloved husband, with whom he was 35 – Richard Buckley. Richard passed away peacefully in their shared home in Los Angeles, Tom and their son Jack were present at his side,” the statement said. It was explained that the journalist died of natural causes after a long illness.

Richard Buckley was a fashion journalist. He started in 1979 in New York Magazine. In later years, he wrote for, among others, “Women’s Wear Daily”, “Vanity Fair”, “Mirabella”, the Italian edition of “Vogue”. In 1999 he became the editor-in-chief of “Vogue Hommes International”. He held this position until 2005.
The American online edition of “Vogue” reminds us that although he was born in New York State, he also grew up in France and Germany.

Buckley and Ford, who is 12 years his junior, met at a fashion show in 1986 and, as the designer said in a later interview, it was love at first sight.
– Our eyes met and we were already living together within a month. We have stayed together forever – said Ford in 2016, recalling the moment when he met his love. Buckley and Ford got married in 2014, shortly after same-sex marriage was legalized in the United States.
