The District Court in Łowicz (Łódź Voivodeship) issued a verdict regarding an accident on the A2 motorway, in which a mother and two children died. A truck hit the rear of a passenger car carrying seven people. Its driver has just been convicted.

The District Court in Łowicz issued a verdict in the case of a tragic accident on the A2 motorway, in which a mother and two children died.

The court found guilty the driver of a truck who hit the back of a passenger car carrying seven people. According to the local portal lowiczanin.info, the guilt was, according to the court, unintentional, but there was no doubt about it. Piotr M. was sentenced to one year in prison, suspended for three years. The court also fined him PLN 6,000 and ordered him to pay compensation. The woman’s husband and the father of the children who died are to receive the most – PLN 18,000. The remaining victims received PLN 3,000 each. The court did not decide to issue a driving ban for M. The injured parties and relatives of the victims were not present at the announcement of the verdict, nor was the accused.

The decision of November 6 is not final.

According to experts, the driver’s driving was not reckless and he was sober. According to the regulations, five people could travel in the Fiat, and there were seven of them. However, the court found that this did not reduce the guilt of the truck driver.

A mother and two of her children died

The accident occurred on the night of March 7-8, 2022 – a few days after the explosion war in Ukraine – on the A2 motorway, between the Łowicz and Łódź Północ junctions in Kalenice. A truck hit the rear of a passenger car carrying seven people. – As a result of the incident, three people traveling in the Fiat died on the spot. They are citizens Ukraine: 29-year-old woman and two children aged six months and two years. A 40-year-old man was transported by helicopter to the hospital in Zgierz. The remaining two children, aged four and six, were taken to hospital – said Commissioner Urszula Szymczak from the police in Łowicz after the incident. The truck was driven by a 52-year-old resident of the Greater Poland Voivodeship. The driver of the Fiat, a 36-year-old Ukrainian citizen, was also transported to hospital.

Investigation into the accident conducted by the District Prosecutor’s Office in Łowicz lasted several months. The prosecutor’s office appointed, among others, an expert in the case road accidents. It was based on his opinion that the indictment against the truck driver was created. According to the website lowiczanin.info, Piotr M. was accused of causing an accident in which three people died. The expert concluded that he did not keep a safe distance and therefore hit the back of the Fiat with the truck.
