Rises for deputy ministers were one of the topics of Tuesday’s conversation in “One for One”. – If we want to have professional specialists, economists, lawyers working in the government, these salaries must change. Both in the government and in the parliament – argued Anna Kornecka from the Agreement, deputy minister of development, labor and technology.
President Andrzej Duda signed the introductory ordinance on Friday raises for deputy ministers. The new provisions will also benefit deputies and senators, whose salaries depend on the amount of the deputy ministers’ earnings. The new regulations mean increases of several thousand for deputy ministers, heads of central offices, the president of the National Bank of Poland and many others. Higher salaries are valid from August 1.
Pay rises for politicians. Anna Kornecka comments
On Tuesday, Anna Kornecka from the Agreement, Deputy Minister of Development, Labor and Technology, spoke about the increases in TVN24’s “One for One”.
– I came to work in the government not for money. On the other hand, the remuneration received by people in managerial positions in the state is one of the lowest in Europe, she said. – If we want to have professional specialists, economists, lawyers working in the government, these salaries must change. Both in the government and in the parliament – added Kornecka.
As she said, neither she nor any other deputy minister “strove for these increases”. – It’s hard for me to comment. This is the prime minister’s and the president’s decision. Nobody consulted it with us, he did not ask for an opinion – she said.
The increases for deputy ministers – she added – may be “a step that will start the debate on increases in the entire public administration, in the budgetary sphere”. – Today we are dealing with a very high rotation of employees due to low salaries – she noted.
Kornecka emphasized that “she cannot imagine that salary increases for the political class would be correlated with tax increases for Poles”. – The agreement very clearly puts the border here and says that we are against a sharp increase in taxes – she said.
Agreement against tax increases
The deputy minister was also asked about the acts of the so-called Polish Order, the economic program of PiS. – All calculations show that even the smallest taxpayers who pay their taxes with a tax card, they also lose out on these solutions. They are losing a lot, because it is not 50-100 zlotys a month. These are very often amounts in thousands of zlotys – she said.
According to Kornecka, the proposed solutions may harm a large number of Poles. – The most important thing is not to increase taxes at the most difficult economic moment. That is why we are protesting, therefore we announce that we will not support such solutions in this form – she emphasized.
When asked if the adoption of such solutions would be the end of the Agreement in the United Right, she replied: – If the situation requires it, and it is necessary to end this project by protesting against tax increases, it will probably be our end in the United Right.
