MetoSola: the Union is not going to rolle anyone
In relation to the announcement of Donald Trump about the imposition of duties to the Union, the politician said that she believes that the EU and the US are able to find a good exit for both sides. – That's why I think we should talk about commercial agreements rather than customs duties. The Union does not intend to decide anyone – Metsola emphasized.
The head of the EP noted, however, that the community would react immediately and firmly to unjustified barriers, including duties, imposed on free and fair trade. In a similar tone, the statement of the European Commission was issued on Wednesday in response to Trump's words.
The head of the EP announced that the EU would increase defense expenses, and assured that these are not just idle announcements. – We know that our commitment must correspond to the level of danger we are facing, and this is very high – she assessed.
Metsola also emphasized that Europe should play a role in guaranteeing a room in Ukrainebecause this one also means peace and stability in Europe. She added that Europe, which in its history has experienced war damage, which marked all generations, always wanted peace in Ukraine.
“But we must be honest with ourselves: peace without freedom, peace without dignity, peace without justice will not be a real peace,” she said, adding that therefore no decisions regarding Ukraine can be made without Kiev's participation.
