The flood that hit Poland is not sparing wild animals either. A recording from Ścinawa (Lower Silesian Voivodeship) shows a roe deer swimming down the swollen Odra, with only its head sticking out of the water.

The flood wave on the Odra is reaching more places. On Saturday, it is passing through Ścinawa in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, among others. The water level is almost 650 centimeters, or 2.5 meters above the alarm level. As reported in the afternoon by the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management, this situation is expected to last for more than 24 hours.

The TVN24 camera recorded a roe deer in the swollen Odra River in the Ścinawa area. The animal was swimming in the opposite direction to the river, but it can be seen that at some point the fast current prevented it from doing so. Masses of water began to carry the roe deer in the other direction, and only its head was above the water.

What to do when you see an animal that needs help

How should we behave when we notice an animal damaged by flooding?

As Tomasz Wykner, the chief specialist of the forest service in the Regional Directorate of State Forests in Zielona Góra, advises in an interview with tvnmeteo.pl, such a case should be reported to the services. – These are wild animals, so depending on whether it is a hare or an adult deer, let's help as much as we can and preferably not alone – he emphasizes.

– The injured animal will be so tired and cold that it will not try to defend itself. It is best to throw a piece of cloth or a sweatshirt over the animal's head and then try to catch the animal and deliver it to one of our forest districts – he says. – If the animal is not badly damaged by the flood, it is mainly a matter of drying it, feeding it and releasing it again – he explains.
