The Ministry of Defense of Romania once again informed about a “small air object” that entered the space of this country in the Black Sea region. Four fighters were picked up from Romanian bases. This is the second such incident in a week.
On the night from Friday to Saturday, military radar systems detected a small air target near the Black Sea, approximately 45 kilometers east of the town of Sfantu Gheorghe in Tulcea County.
“Therefore, in order to monitor the situation, an F-18 of the Spanish Air Force was picked up from the 57th Air Base Mihail Kogalniceanu, and then two F-16 planes of the Romanian Air Force from the 86th Air Base Borcea,” the ministry said in a statement.
Warning to the public
The planes tracked the target continuously but had no visual contact with it. After approx. half an hour, approx. At 4.30 local time, the radar system lost signal south of Cogealac. The maximum depth of airspace penetration was 19 kilometers, it was reported.
According to the Romanian Ministry of Defense, at the time of publication of the announcement, there was no data on the possible existence of an impact zone in the country.
A warning was issued to the public in the region where the object appeared as part of the Ro-Alert system. Romanian media reported that at around 5:10 a.m. information was given about the end of the air alert and the fighters returned to their bases.
To a depth of 14 kilometers
A similar situation occurred three days earlier. Over the Black Sea, Romanian radar systems recorded a small aerial object on Thursday evening that entered the country's airspace to a depth of 14 kilometers. Fighters were then picked up in accordance with air police protocol NATOand then under the national command.
