Storms hit Romania on Tuesday. Strong winds toppled trees and damaged buildings and cars. The services report short-term disruptions to rail traffic and suspension of ship traffic in ports on the Black Sea.

The fire brigade intervened most often in Bucharest on Tuesday. More than 70 interventions have been carried out since the morning, the Digi24 station reported. A man was quoted as saying that he miraculously escaped injury after trees fell on electrical wires and then an electric pole collapsed right next to his car.

In the early afternoon, emergency services reported that events related to strong winds occurred in 13 districts. It mainly involved trees fallen by the wind, damaged buildings and cars.

There were short-term disruptions to rail traffic in the Prahova district due to fallen trees.

Damaged power grids, suspended ship traffic

Seven towns in Harghita County experienced power supply problems due to damage to power grids.

Ship traffic has been suspended in all ports on the Black Sea, the Emergency Situations Department reported.

The wind was strongest in the north and southeast of the country, where orange warnings were in force. Lower-level weather alerts were issued for the rest of Romania and have now expired. The services warned of wind speeds of up to 120 kilometers per hour.
