Romania. Russian drone entered airspace, fighter jets scrambled

A Russian drone flew into Romanian airspace. This happened during Russian shelling of Ukraine. The Romanians scrambled two F-16 fighters, which were monitoring the drone's further flight. A ground search for the drone's remains is also underway.

“The radar surveillance system identified and tracked the route of the drone that entered the national airspace and then left the country's territory towards Ukraine on the night from Saturday to Sunday,” it reported. Ministry of National Defense Romania on Sunday morning.

Two Romanian F-16s from Borcea base were scrambled to monitor the flight of the Russian unmanned aerial vehicle.

The ministry also reported that there was a “likely impact zone” in an uninhabited area near the town of Periprava. In other words, fragments of a Russian drone could have landed there. Ground research and investigative activities are underway. The ministry noted that allied structures were being kept informed about the situation.

Earlier, the media reported that in the regions bordering Ukrainein Tulcea and Constanța counties, residents received Ro-Alert telephone warnings at night, warning of a possible air threat and urging them to take cover.

Russian drone in Romania

Fragments of Russian drones have previously fallen in Romania's border regions in the Danube Delta. According to Romanian authorities, these were drones used in attacks on Ukraine, and Romania itself was not the target of the attack.

Bucharest condemned attacks on Ukraine's port and civilian infrastructure.
