Romania. The second round of repeated elections has ended. The first results of exit poll

On Sunday, repeated presidential elections were held in Romania, in which the leader of the radical right -wing Aur George Simion and the pro -European mayor of Bucharest Nicusor Dan competed. According to the initial results of exit poll cited by Reuters, Dan took first place.

On Sunday in Romania The second round of repeated presidential elections took place, in which George Simion and Nicusor Dan competed for the office of the president. Both candidates in the election campaign presented themselves as politicians from outside the system, undermining the existing political systems, dominated by the Social Democratic Party and the National-Liberal Party.

According to Reuters, according to the first Exit Poll results Dan won 54.9 percent votes and simion – 45.1 percent.

Voting in Romania lasted from 7am to 9pm (6 to 20 in Poland), just after the end the results of Exit Poll were published. Romanians abroad began voting on Friday.

Repeated elections in Romania

Romania citizens voted on Sunday in the second round of repeated presidential elections. Voting took place after the Constitutional Court (SK) annulled the first round of presidential elections of November 24, 2024 in December last year. The reason for this decision was the allegations of one of the candidates – Calina Georgescu, who won first place – for abuse in the campaign and breaking the rules of fair election competition, as well as support from the “external actor” (Russia – ed.).

In the statements of voters met before electoral premises, regardless of political sympathy, there was a sense of fatigue of the current power, and the “change” was the most frequently repeated by them. Frustration mainly concerns unsatisfactory earnings and systems and acquaintances that make it difficult for citizens to access high -level public services.
