A lot happened in Poland last year, but the most shocking in politics were the escapes of Zbigniew Ziobro and Mateusz Morawiecki. Both patrons remain in Poland, although they are at odds, but their associates disappear and are found abroad. The most famous of them is Marcin Romanowski.
Marcin Romanowski is the political hero of the year. Much of what has happened in Polish politics has some connection with him or similarities. The former deputy minister of justice from the Law and Justice party escaped from justice and although he is wanted on an arrest warrant, his party boss is trying to argue that the MP did not escape.
– There cannot be a fair trial here in these political conditions. And there are every grounds to avoid it, comments Jarosław Kaczyński.
– Those who stole, the corrupt, seek refuge in countries and under the wings of politicians who are very similar to themselves – says Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
Marcin Romanowski fled to Hungary, just like Tomasz Szmyt escaped to Belarus this year. Tomasz Szmyt, like Marcin Romanowski, was represented by the same lawyer, Bartosz Lewandowski, also politically involved.
Politicians were enthusiastic about PiS's changes in the justice system, for which Zbigniew Ziobro was also responsible, and together with Marcin Romanowski, he was responsible for the Justice Fund. They both also shared photos of themselves from the hospital room on social media. One, when he avoided the Pegasus commission of inquiry, and the other, when he avoided justice in connection with fixing competitions in the Justice Fund, as evidenced by the testimony of a repentant witness and even tapes of his conversations.
A controversial pardon
The first to be tortured – according to PiS – were two PiS politicians – Mariusz Kamiński and Maciej Wąsik. Wanted by the police, they took refuge in the Presidential Palace, but were detained there.
President Andrzej Duda was officially shocked, he was not supposed to pardon them because he believed he had already pardoned them, but in the end he pardoned them a second time. This time, legally.
Marcin Romanowski, fleeing to Hungary, is unlikely to give Andrzej Duda a chance to pardon him, but the PiS candidate, if he became president, could pardon him.
Rafał Trzaskowski is Karol Nawrocki's most serious rival. It was strengthened by the local government victory in the first round in Warsaw. In the local and European elections, the results were similar.
The RARS case and Daniel Obajtek in Hungary
The former head of the Government Agency of Strategic Reserves is also in British custody, and a businessman close to the PiS authorities was detained in the Dominican Republic and left after the change of power.
He spent a large part of the year in Hungary, like Marcin Romanowski and Daniel Obajtek. The former president of Orlen was in Hungary when he was supposed to appear before the investigative commission that confirmed the PiS visa scandal. There is also evidence and testimony of a repentant person associated with PiS. – The political leadership of the United Right tried to cover up the visa scandal – said Edgar Kobos, a former colleague of Piotr Wawrzyk, at one of the hearings.
