Three women, including a friend of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, were shot dead on Sunday when a gunman opened fire on participants in a meeting of a housing community in a block of flats in Rome, Reuters reported.

Police arrested a 57-year-old man. The attacker was overpowered by residents after he opened fire during a meeting that was taking place in a bar in Rome’s Fidene district. Three people were killed and four were injured in the attack. One was seriously injured, Reuters reported.

Among the victims was an acquaintance of the Italian prime minister

One of the victims of Sunday’s attack is Nicoletta Golisano, a friend of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. The politician posted a photo of them together on Instagram.

“For me, she will always remain beautiful and happy, as in this photo,” wrote the head of the Italian government. “It’s not right to die like this,” she added.

Italy’s prime minister said the shooting range from which the suspect obtained the gun was closed and under investigation.

Witness: entered the bar, closed the door and started shooting

According to Reuters, the suspect is from the area where the crime took place.

One witness said the man was “in numerous disputes” with the community of residents he attacked.

– He entered the bar, closed the door and shouted: I will kill you all! And then he started shooting,” another witness told the Italian news agency Ansa.
