Pope Francis, remembering the suffering of Ukrainians during prayers for peace, was broken and had tears in his eyes, the Reuters agency reported, publishing a fragment of the recording of this event. The Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary is celebrated on Thursday. The Pope went to Piazza di Spagna in Rome, where, in the presence of hundreds of people, he prayed for peace in Ukraine, as well as for the victory of love over hatred.
Reuters reported that the pope’s voice was trembling as he mentioned the suffering of Ukrainians. Francis was forced to stop, he didn’t say anything for about 30 seconds, his head hung down. As he resumed his prayer, his voice broke.
The Pope emphasized in prayer, addressing the Mother of God. – Today I would like to be able to give you the thanksgiving of the Ukrainian people for the peace that we have been asking the Lord for for a long time. But I must continue to present the request of the children, the elderly, fathers and mothers, the young people of this troubled land.
“But we all know that you are with them and with all those who suffer, as at the cross of your son,” Francis added.
“Looking at you, who are without sin, we can continue to believe and hope that love will triumph over hatred, truth will win over lies, forgiveness will win over insult, and peace will win over war,” he continued.
