Certainly, ardent tennis fans have often seen situations in which Andrei Rublev literally went berserk on the court. The Russian is often unable to control his emotions, which results in him smashing more and more rockets, screaming for long periods of time, and hitting his head. Despite this, the 26-year-old is still among the elite of men's tennis. Currently, he is in sixth place in the ATP rankings.
Rublev made an honest confession. Fans are in disbelief
This season, the Russian player triumphed in Madrid, defeating, for example, Carlos Alcaraz (2nd ATP). At the last Grand Slam this year – US Open – Rublev was eliminated at stage 1/8 final after a defeat against Grigor Dimitrov (10th ATP). Shortly after the end of the competition in the United States, he had serious health problems. Surgery turned out to be necessary.
In a recent conversation with BetBoom Tennis, the 26-year-old revealed that if he had not undergone the above-mentioned surgery, he would have been at risk of having one of his limbs amputated. Doctors and members of his staff emphasized that the earliest Andrei Rublev would return to the court would be the Shanghai Masters tournament, which started on September 30. Despite this, the Russian did everything to play at the ATP 500 Beijing.
– They told me after the surgery that if everything went well, I would show up in Shanghai. Then I replied: Okay, if I have to play in Shanghai, there is a chance for Beijing. And here I am. Nobody on my team expected me to be here. After the US Open, I was preparing for a tournament in China, and a few days before departure I had to undergo surgery. If it had not been done, it could have resulted in amputation, the player said. We don't know the details of his health problems. The tennis player made sure everything was kept secret. It is only said that a few hours were decisive for his future full fitness.
However, some fans on social media claimed that Rublev's story may not be true. They couldn't believe that he was back in optimal shape in such a short time after the procedure. One can assume that it was his injury was extremely serious since it could result in amputation.
Ultimately, the Russian actually managed to recover before the start of the competition in Beijing. In the capital of China, he was eliminated in the quarterfinals. His defeat was the Chinese Yunchaokete Bu (ATP 69), who won 7:5, 6:4. A few days later, Rublev was eliminated from the Shanghai Masters after the first matchlosing to the Czech Jakub Mensik 7:6 (7), 4:6, 3:6.
