Media mogul Rupert Murdoch, head of the conservative empire that includes Fox News, has announced his engagement to his partner Ann Lesley Smith, who was a police chaplain, the BBC reported.

Murdoch, 92, and Mrs. Smith, 66, met in September at a party at his vineyard in California. The businessman told the New York Post tabloid, which he owns: “I was afraid of falling in love, but I knew it would be my last time.” It better be that way. I’m happy.

Murdoch added that he proposed to Smith on St. Patrick’s Day, is “one quarter Irish” and was “very nervous”.

Ann Lesley’s former husband, Chester Smith, who died in 2008, was a country singer and radio and television executive.

It’s a gift from God for both of us. We met last September,” Smith told the New York Post.

– I’ve been a widow for 14 years. Like Rupert, my husband was a businessman. So I speak Rupert’s language. We have the same beliefs, she added.

Murdoch has six children from his first three marriages. “We are both looking forward to spending the second half of our lives together,” the 92-year-old said.

The wedding will take place in the late summer and the couple is expected to spend time in California, Montana, New York and the UK, the BBC reported.

He added that Murdoch was previously married to Australian flight attendant Patricia Booker, born in Scotland journalist Anna Mann and born in China entrepreneur Wendi Deng, and separated from his fourth wife, Jerry Hall, last year.
