In 2000, Russell Crowe played the role of General Maximus in Ridley Scott’s “Gladiator”. Two decades later, he visited Rome with his partner and two sons. “I took the kids to see my old office,” joked the actor in the description of the photo from the Colosseum he shared on social media.

A photo taken during the actor’s family vacation in the capital appeared on Russell Crowe’s Twitter profile on Monday Italian. He poses in front of the Colosseum with his partner, 31-year-old Britney Theriot, and two sons from a marriage ended in 2018 – Charles, 18, and Tennyson, 16. There were also a few other young people in the frame, it is not known whether they are family friends or random tourists.

Visiting Rome had its continuation. On the same day, Crowe visited the famous Trevi Fountain. He boasted about it in another photo that he posted on Twitter. In his description, the actor called the popular Roman tourist attraction “his favorite place in the universe.”

Maximus returned to Rome

Rome has been a special place for Crowe for over 20 years. Although the pictures for “Gladiator” were not shot in the Eternal City or even in Italy (the “Roman” scenes were created on Malta), the subject of the former capital of the empire must evoke positive associations in the New Zealand actor. A performance in the cult production from 2000 gave his career a boost and provided him An Oscar for the leading role. Critics unanimously assessed Crowe’s performance as General Maximus, the Emperor’s right-hand man, as an outstanding acting performance. The film itself received equally good reviews, in which the star cast had a lot of credit. At Crowe’s side on the screen appeared, among others Joaquin Phoenix or Richard Harris. Ridley Scott was seated in the director’s chair.

A year after “Gladiator”, “A Beautiful Mind” premiered, in which Crowe played the math genius John Nash, suffering from a gradually developing mental illness. This role earned him another Oscar nomination, although this time the New Zealander did not receive the statuette.

Recently, the latest film with Russell Crowe hit theaters – “Thor: Love and Thunder”. In the production based on the Marvel comic book series about the eponymous superhero, the star of “Gladiator” plays the king of Olympus, Zeus.
