Former American soldier Robert Gilman was sentenced by a Russian court to an additional year in prison. The Russian media had previously cited Gilman's lawyers who claimed that the American came to Russia to obtain the citizenship of this country.

In October 2024, Gilman, after admitting his guilty, was sentenced to seven years and one month in prison for assaulting a prison officer and a state investigator while serving a sentence of 3.5 years imprisonment for drunk aggression against policemen in 2022.

He came to Russia to study and obtain citizenship
The Russian judiciary did not justify the court's decision in Voronezh to impose an additional year on Gilman.
The Russian media had previously cited Gilman's lawyers who claimed that the American came to Russia to study there and obtain citizenship of this country.
