Oppositionist Alexei Navalny, imprisoned in a high-security penal colony, complains that he has recently been poisoned, attacked and deprived of proper medical care. He revealed that he now faces a new challenge – every morning he is forced to listen to a pro-Putin pop singer.

A leading Russian oppositionist Alexei Navalny he is currently in a penal colony about 60 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle.

Sentenced to more than 25 years in prison, Navalny said his mornings now consist of listening to the Russian national anthem and then playing the patriotic song “I am a Russian,” performed by pro-Putin singer Jaroslav “Shaman” Dronov.

His signature song, which he sometimes performs dressed in a black leather outfit with a headband in the colors of the Russian flag, tells, among other things, that Russians cannot be “broken,” explains Reuters.

“The singer Shaman gained fame when I was already in prison, so I couldn’t see him or listen to his music. However, I knew that he became Putin’s main singer,” Navalny wrote on social media.

The oppositionist reports that when he was transferred to a prison located in the Arctic Circle, “every day at 5 a.m. he hears the command ‘Get up!’ followed by the Russian national anthem, and immediately afterwards the second most important song in the country, ‘I am a Russian’ performed by Shaman, is played.” .

The irony, Navalny said, is that state propaganda once highlighted that he marched with Russian nationalists every year, and now, years later, ultranationalist pop songs are played to him in the morning for educational purposes.
