A teenage girl from Russia brought her father’s gun to school and started shooting during class. One person died, several were injured. The attacker is also dead.

Information about the shooting at a school in Bryansk in western Russia was reported by the independent Russian website Meduza. According to journalists, the girl opened fire on other students during a lesson on Thursday and then committed suicide. The hunting weapon was to be brought from home.

Local authorities said one student was killed in the shooting. The Reuters news agency writes that five people were also injured.

The motives for the attack are unknown. However, Radio Swoboda, citing Telegram channels, reported that the teenager had been bullied by her peers for a long time. The police are also considering a conflict between students as a possible cause of the shooting.

After the shooting, people were evacuated from the school and access to the building was blocked off by the police.

The governor of the Bryansk region, Alexander Bogomaz, said that five of the injured people were children, all of them had light or moderate injuries. – Together with law enforcement authorities, we are determining under what circumstances the student could have obtained and brought a weapon to school – said Bogomaz. He also added that the incident was a “terrible tragedy.”

According to the Moscow Times, the 14-year-old’s father has already been detained for questioning.
