Russia. CIA chief William Burns met with Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev

The Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, Nikolai Patrushev, and the head of the CIA, William Burns, met in Moscow, the Council writes, to discuss relations between Russia and the United States. The details of the meeting were not announced.

The daily “Kommersant” recalled that Nikolai Patrushev met William Burns for the first time as director of the US Central Intelligence Agency.


Earlier, the two had an interview in 2013 during Patrushev’s visit to the United States, when Burns served as secretary of state.

William Burns became head of the CIA in March of this year. In 2005-2008 he was the US ambassador to Russia. When he was appointed director of the Central Intelligence Agency, he said that “Russia is dangerous”. As he claimed, during his work as ambassador to Moscow he remembered that “Putin’s Russia should never be underestimated,” wrote “Kommersant”.
