Three officers were killed and several people were injured in a shootout in Dagestan, an autonomous Russian republic. Unidentified attackers opened fire to the road police when the officers wanted to stop them for inspection.
On Monday afternoon in the capital of Dagestan, Machaczkale, there was a shootout. The president of this autonomous republic, which is part of Russia, Sergei Malikov, said that unidentified and armed perpetrators opened fire to officers when road policemen tried to stop the car that the attackers drove.
According to local authorities, three road police officers were killed.
City authorities: Two shooters were killed
A spokesman for the municipal administration reported on a telegram that two shooters were killed. He did not give them names and names, but said that they were born in 2000. According to Russian media, the other shooters fled by car. Reuters notes that it is not clear how many perpetrators there were.
Local authorities provide information about four wounded people, but Russian media write that two attackers, two policemen and several wounded civilians, including a 17-year-old girl, were taken to the hospital. One of these people died in the facility.
On the recordings that appeared on the telegram and verified by Reuters, you can see the bodies lying on the street next to the police car. When passers -by approaches them, more arrows can be heard on the street. People then run away.
An investigation was initiated on the event.
Dangerous in Dagestan
In Dagestan, inhabited mainly by Muslims in the Republic in the Russian North Caucasus, has been coming to bloody attacks in recent years. In March, soldiers of anti -terrorist units shot four men associated with the so -called Islamic State, who were to plan an assassination attempt on the Local Office of the Interior Ministry.
In June 2024, for security, Dagestan authorities temporarily banned the wearing of Nikab – a headgear revealing only their eyes – after previous coordinated attacks on the church and synagogues, in which 22 people were killed, mostly policemen.
In the years 2000, armed clashes with jihadists lived in the Republic of about three million people. After many years of fighting, the Islamist rebellion was suppressed by Russian forces.
