Russia has withdrawn all of its troops from Belarusian territory, Ukrainian Border Guard spokesman Andriy Demchenko said. “Only logistics units that pose no threat to Ukraine remain,” he added.
Andriy Demchenko recalled that last year Russia she kept on Belarus at least 10-12 thousand soldiers, transferred to the neighboring country under the pretext of conducting exercises. Currently – as he said – there are no Russian soldiers in Belarus. – There are only logistic units left, which do not pose a threat to Ukraine – added the spokesman of the Ukrainian Border Guard.
Demchenko noted that Belarusian forces and military equipment are being transferred to various regions of the country, but “this does not pose a significant threat to Ukraine.”
Appeal for troop withdrawal
At the end of August, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kiev called on the Belarusian authorities to withdraw the troops that were deployed near the Ukrainian border.
The ministry cited reports from Ukrainian military intelligence that the Belarusian armed forces were concentrating soldiers in the Gomel region, near Ukraine's northern borders, under the guise of training. The Belarusian army allegedly moved tanks, artillery, air defense systems and engineering equipment to the area. “Russian Wagner Group mercenaries also appeared at the Ukrainian border,” the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry noted in August.
Exercises in Belarus
In February of this year, the independent channel “Belorusski Hayun” reported that in 2025, large-scale operational and strategic exercises would be held at Belarusian training grounds, in which Russian troops would take part. “Belorusski Hayun” cited Defense Minister Viktar Khrenin, who allegedly said this in an interview for Russian propaganda media.
The Ukrainian portal Militarnyj noted after reports from “Belorusskiy Hayun” that Russia may lack soldiers and equipment to conduct simultaneous operations war in Ukraine and large-scale exercises.
