I will, of course, meet with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov this week, admitted Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto on Monday. He added that he would like as many foreign ministers of Western European countries to do the same.
Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Hungarian – staying in New York on the occasion of the General Assembly session UN – he assessed that the UN was created precisely so that opposing sides could talk to each other.
– The world should use this week to bring peace to the world Ukraine. There are Russians here, Ukrainians here, Americans here, French people here and here would be an opportunity for everyone to talk to each other on so-called neutral ground, said Peter Szijjarto.
Head of Hungarian diplomacy in Russia and Belarus
This will not be the first meeting between Szijjarto and Lavrov after the start of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine. They talked in Moscow already in July this year. During his travels to Russia the Hungarian politician also met with other politicians, including Aleksander Nowak, deputy prime minister responsible for energy matters.
In February this year, Szijjarto also went to Minsk, justifying this by the need to maintain communication channels. In mid-September he was accused of being “contrary to the European Union’s policy towards Belarus and Russia” visit criticized in a resolution of the European Parliament.
