Gazprom has informed Moldova that it will suspend its natural gas supplies within 48 hours, unless it settles payments, the deadline of which is November 22. The head of the Moldovan concern Moldovagaz Vadim Cheban told the TASS agency that the company has received information about a possible interruption of gas supplies, is working on this issue and expects financial aid from the Moldovan government.
New contract for Russian gas
Moldova and Russia signed a new gas contract at the end of October, as the previous one expired in September. It provides for deliveries to Moldova of 3 billion cubic meters. Russian gas annually. Moldova announced that in November it would pay $ 450 for gas from Russia for 1,000 cubic meters. raw material; in December, the price is expected to drop to $ 400. According to the previous contract, the price was $ 250 for 1000 cubic meters.
After the previous agreement expired at the end of September, the gas shortage forced Moldova to introduce a state of emergency in the energy sector. At that time, Gazprom agreed to extend the existing contract for one month – to October – at a higher price than before. The company also announced that it would suspend gas supplies to Moldova if it fails to settle its financial obligations to Gazprom.
Moldovagaz is waiting for government help
– We have received a notification from Gazprom and are working on resolving the debt settlement. Today it was discussed at the board meeting – said Cheban. He explained that the debt concerns gas supplies for October and the first half of November.
The head of the concern also told the Russian agency that Moldova was waiting for financial aid from the Moldovan government to settle accounts with Gazprom.
