Russia. Media: Vladimir Putin’s cousin at the head of the Defenders of the Fatherland Foundation

Independent Russian media reported that President Vladimir Putin established the Defenders of the Fatherland Foundation, which provides assistance to soldiers fighting in Ukraine, as well as families of fallen military personnel. It was headed by the wife of the governor of the Kemerovo region, Anna Civileva, according to reports – Putin’s cousin.

In the decree Vladimir Putinpublished on Monday on the website praw.ru, it was reported that the foundation was established to “create conditions to ensure a dignified life and active activity for the participants of the ‘special military operation’ (propaganda term for the armed invasion of Ukraine – ed.), and also to their families.


The head of the foundation, according to the Russian section of Radio Svoboda and the independent Internet television Nastoyashcheye Vremya, citing reports on Telegram websites, is the wife of the governor of the Kemerovo region, Anna Tsvileva.

The Telegram services reported that Tsvileva is Vladimir Putin’s cousin. She was born in the city of Ivanovo near Moscow and her maiden name is Putin.

Kirienko and pro-war journalists

The foundation will employ 130 people. The deputy head of the presidential administration, Sergei Kiriyenko, became the chairman of the supervisory board. The council also includes deputies of the State Duma (lower house of the Russian parliament), officials and media workers who report on the war in Ukraine according to reports from the Ministry of Defense in Moscow, Radio Svoboda reported.

Tsvileva is also the chairman of the Board of Trustees in the social sphere of the Kemerovo region. On the council’s website we read that it is not a legal person and does not have its own account, Radio Swoboda reported.

According to the online TV station Nastoyashcheye Vremya, Putin’s cousin is also the head of the board of directors of the Kolmar mining company. In 2012, the company was valued at $400 million. The governor of the Kemerovo region, Sergei Tsivilev, and his wife were to receive Kolmar from Putin’s friend, the billionaire Gennady Timchenko, who owned 60 percent of the company’s shares, Nastoyashcheye Vremya TV reported.
