The first months of the invasion of Ukraine were accompanied by a sharp increase in demand for antidepressants in Russia, The Moscow Times reported on Friday. Their sales jumped 87 percent year-on-year.

In the first five months of 2023 alone, according to The Moscow Times, the demand for psychotropic drugs increased by 30 percent, and year-on-year it was almost twice as high as in spring 2022.

“The increase in the demand for antidepressants may indicate that people, in addition to depression, also suffer from adjustment disorders and anxiety,” said the psychiatrist quoted by the portal.
